As a result of the financial crisis the government launched an initiative that resulted in the creation of an act of parliament authorising the Treasury to designate (or authorise) finance platforms such as ABF. This designation has only been given to three platforms, of which ABF is one. It is important to note that ABF was also the platform who initiated the entire designated platform process back in 2013.

abf reply...

The platform is simple and none of the questions will require you to get information that you wouldn’t have to hand. Usually this process takes under two minutes and can be faster.

ABF is owned by a financial services business Clifton Asset Management PLC, and is not Government owned.

There are more than 100 funders offering more than 150 products on the platform. Each one of these providers will have a slightly different security model. As you use the platform you will be asked if you are able to provide a guarantee and you can choose not to do so if you wish. Please remember that choosing not to offer any guarantee might affect the number of funding options that you will be offered.

Personal guarantees are often required, or preferred, in a wide range of funding scenarios from bank loans to invoice finance facilities. Put simply, giving a personal guarantee means you as a business owner or director will be held personally liable if the business can’t pay what it owes, therefore allowing the lender to pursue you personally if your company defaults on its loan.

As well as minimising risk to the lender, a personal guarantee is a strong indicator that you have confidence in your business and are willing to take on some personal risk. While this may seem a daunting prospect, in some cases it can mean the difference between the success and failure of your finance application.

Once you have selected (or have asked our team to select) some funders they will in turn make contact with you. As part of our service level agreements with funders they are asked to try several times in an unobtrusive manner to contact you. However, if after a few days that are unable to make contact they will stop. If you select multiple lenders then you might expect to receive a larger number of contacts in the initial stages of the process.

abf reply...

Alternative Business Funding is free to use because we are paid a commission by the funder in the event of a successful lending arrangement. This is the fairest way of doing this as it encourages us to find you the most available funding. Our lenders pay us in such a way that means we do not favour one over the other, ensuring you a fair experience on the platform. This is most important to us.

The amount we are paid varies, depending on the amount, type of funding and length of funding agreement. However, payment to us averages around 2% of the total loan and is paid by the lender and not added to your cost.
